Admissions to the Nutritional Sciences Graduate Program

The University of Texas Department of Nutritional Sciences is a multidisciplinary research unit that examines human organism from the molecular level – genes, metabolites, and cells – to the system level – individuals, families, and societies. We work in the nexus of epidemiology, genetics, public health, cell biology, and medicine. Department of Nutritional Sciences faculty explore the interconnectedness of human systems, through basic and applied research. We are science-based, human-focused.   

Admission to our Ph.D. and Master’s program is extremely competitive, and is based on a holistic review of all submitted applications. Applications for the Fall 2025 cohort open August 1st, 2024 and are due by December 1st, 2024.
 

Admissions Requirements

Admission requirements to the Graduate School and the Nutritional Sciences Graduate Program are as follows:

--A Bachelor’s degree in a Nutrition related field from an accredited United States institution or proof of equivalent training at an institute outside the United States.

--A GPA of at least 3.00 in upper-division work (junior- and senior-level courses) and in any graduate work already completed.

--The GRE requirement has been permanently waived for all applicants to Nutritional Sciences programs. GRE scores submitted voluntarily will not be reviewed by the admissions committee.

--A satisfactory score (minimum score of 82 required) on the TOEFL exam. For more information, please see http://www.utexas.edu/ogs/admissions/test_scores.html

--A Statement of Purpose that reflects on your prior experience, why you are selecting to apply to the University of Texas, and your personal and academic goals.

--Applicants should have a background in nutrition or related sciences and/or meet the pre-requisite coursework for admissions (described below).

Graduate Program Application Process

The Department of Nutritional Sciences In Residence Graduate Program will accept applications for the Fall 2025 cohort beginning August 1, 2024. Applications are due on December 1st, 2024.
